ChatGPT plans checked on chatgpt.com/pricing on October 18, 2026: Free, Go ($8 a month in the US), Plus ($20 a month) and Pro tiers.
What can ChatGPT do for a YouTube channel?
- Topic research. "List 30 questions a first-time homebuyer asks a mortgage broker." Then check which ones show up in YouTube search suggestions.
- Outlines. Turn a topic into a tight structure: hook, promise, three points, offer.
- Title options. Ask for ten, keep the clearest. Titles max out at 100 characters.
- Descriptions. A benefit-first first line, a short summary and your link (what to put in a description).
- Chapters. Paste a transcript and ask for timestamps. Check them.
- Repurposing. Turn a transcript into an email, a blog post or social captions.
- Follow-up emails. Draft a welcome sequence for people who join from your videos.
Where shouldn't you trust ChatGPT?
- Facts and numbers. It can state wrong things confidently.
- YouTube's current features and rules. These change often. Check YouTube Help.
- Your voice. Generic AI copy sounds like everyone else. Rewrite it in your words.
How I use it
When I teach channel setup, the order is: define your customer, name the channel for them, find keywords, choose images that feel right to them. Only then do I bring in ChatGPT, to generate a topic list as background research. That last part matters: background research. The list gives you raw material. Your judgment about what your customer actually needs decides what gets made.
ChatGPT vs. other assistants
Claude, Gemini and Grok can do most of the same tasks. Gemini can connect to YouTube and other Google apps; Grok works alongside X for spotting what people are discussing. The best assistant is the one you'll open every day.
